Hello, Welcome to my web page. My name is Kris, and I am an Amateur Radio Operator. As of 2008, I am truck driver as you can tell by my picture. Sometimes I have a 2 mter mobile in the rig, but generally I have a CB. If I am in the Home City semi, my handle is "HEAVY METAL". If you happen to see me in a MORAN TRANSPORT truck my handle is "ROAD WARRIOR".
My callsign issued to me by the FCC was KB9YKZ issued to me on December 2 200. However, in 2002 I applied for a vanity call. My callsign is chose was K7KGF. My callsign is valid until 2012, at which I plan on renewing it and keeping it till I go silent key. I successfully passed my Technician Test on November 29, 2000 with the help of The Goshen Amateur Radio Club, which is loacted in Goshen, Indiana on the campus of the Greencroft Retirement community.
My QTH (location) is in Syracuse, Indiana which is about 11 miles West of Ligonier or about 55 miles North West of Ft. wayne. I primarily operate on the UHF/VHF bands. I have 4 mobile radios, which are all manufactured by ALINCO. I use two of them here in the house as my base radios. The one radio is primarily used for APRS. It is a ALINCO DR-110 that I picked up from the Dayton Hamvention. The other radio is an ALINCO DR-140T, which I purchased from N4QX. Thanks for the great rig Brennan, and keep up the good work at the ARRL! The other two rigs are mounted in the truck. In the truck I use the ALINCO DR-605t for IMO SKYWARN, and ARIES/RACES activities. The 605T gives me coverage on the 2 meter and 440 bands. I also have the new ALINCO DR-235T in the truck to communicate with some of the other weather spotters, and amateurs on the 220mhz band. I hope to add a 220mhz radio to the shack , and add a 6 meter rig to my collection for mobile operation.
I have many other projects going. Right now as we speak , with the help of Charlie Short (KB9BIF) we are working on getting a fully functional APRS station up and running. I'm also trying to get into some other modes of operation on the UHF/VHF bands. Of course the big project is upgrading to a General Class License so I can have access to the low bands, and more modes of operation. I'am studying for the written and morse code parts of the test as we speak..
I enjoy attending hamfests. I go to as many of them as I possibly can. The fun things about hamfests are you get to meet people from all over the worls, and you get to meet the people you talk to on the repeaters. I also enjoy computers, Antique cars and Hot Rods. I also spend alot of time and of course money on Ebay. I'm very active with the Goshen Amateur Radio Club and SKYWARN. Thanks for stopping by and visit often!!!!
